What about the rest of us? Would any of us have ever turned our lives over to the Watchtower's illusionary "God's organization" if we had made the above examination before we got baptized... if we had not made the above mistake?
On page 44 I say...
All those who are now Jehovah?s Witnesses have failed to carefully examine the Watchtower?s claim of being God?s "faithful and discreet slave organization" based upon what Russell & Rutherford had been teaching down till 1919 in fulfillment of Matthew 24:45-47. And all those who become Jehovah?s Witnesses in the future will make this same mistake.

I think you are mistaken about this mistake, after all many people were CONviNcED by Russell and even Rutherford and based on their CONvictions and the admission that they were NOT inspired by God, many could accept they were chosen as they claimed, for they claim their light was based on an honesty of heart rather than an accuracy of verse.... more bull$#!+ to be sure, but I think the greatest mistake that all seekers make is not what you stated but rather to hold the FALSE belief that THE TRUTH is out there and within our ability to know... rather than accept where all such ideas really lead, back to the fact that each of us are trapped in our own minds inventions and unable to determine THE TRUTH... most of what passes for THE TRUTH is nothing more than a match between our experiences and some hidden ideals we have no knowlege about...we do not know who put them there how valid they are or what their real source is...but when we find a match we FEEL it and that it more than good enough for most.... self delusion is easy.

i am discussing this subject with a friend who believes this and who uses the passage in col 1 vs.15-17 as 'proof'.

he also uses john 8 v 58. it is of course a question of greek interpretation.

is there anyone out there who is a reliable greek scholar who could verify what these verses really say?

If the Israelites did adopt Caananite mythology, that would make for an interesting synthesis come the time of the Christian revolution. Hence if (as per the NT) Jesus is being identified with YHWH, the "Father" would bear the name Elohim, not YHWH (though YHWH/Jesus would be a "father" in his own right, as per Isa.9).

I find nothing in the NT to make Jesus identified with YHWH, which the jews clearly viewed as the ONLY God and the Father.

the gnostics viewed YHWH as an demented divine being who in his ignorance thought he was the only true god, but that is a different set of myths.

no sure what you are getting at....

elohim or Theos or God, normally refers to THE FATHER... and sometimes the entire elohim refers to the FATHER and the whole of the divine realm which he leads where the beni-elohim refers to those led.

the world we KNOW is a reconstruction... a summary about 40 bits out of 11million processed.... its more of a guess at times than anything else...

I have looked at a road sign, read real words, looked back to find it saying something else entirely.... try reading something in your peripheral view... its next to impossible as you are not really seeing it, your mind is making it up to a large degree and words are just a blur.

what we KNOW is an activated map... the images on that map are our own invention and need not resemble reality one bit and there is no easy way to tell if they ever match reality at all... we assume they do because whatever we are experiencing is the only reality we have to worry about and so there is no point for many to go beyond dealing with it....many get angry at the suggestion that what they are experiencing may be their own invention and nothing more.

while you sleep the memory is sort of turned off, but not quite, the mind still attempts to make sense of signals surrounding you but now within a context of memories more than a context of a world shared with others...and that attempt produces a what we call the dream world....

while awake the elements of this dream world are still there, but by comparison to signals from the senses it seems ghostly and almost invisible...but given the right drug or wrong drug (^_^) and that changes and it becomes difficult to distinguish a ideal from a object in the shared world.... religiously inspired emotional turmoil is more than sufficient to tip the balance and make people have visions and hallucinations and possibily even discover a set of channels on our mental TV set we never knew existed which taps into a source we cannot trace.... but we only assume we trace the standard channels now... we really dont know the actual source of the world we seem to share.[see my picture again]

demons, gods, devils, and other entities may be as real as your neighbor, but your neighbor may not be more real than a thought.

experiences are real, our beliefs about them may or may not be.... accepting uncertainty is honest.

I would say the writer is making a connection between YHWH the GOD and Jesus the IMAGE of GOD, his FIRST BORN in all things...

yes FIRSTBORN has more than one meaning, but its original meaning should not be ignored because it does not fit with trinitarian dogma.

The point is merely whether "LOGOS" is involved in creating everything, or is "himself" part of that creation.
I think that if you cast the Trinitarian / Unitarian debate aside, for a moment, you'll find that the scriptures are clear on this.

like most other things biblical it is not very clear

to say that because the bible says the word or Jesus was used by God to create all things, leaves him out of the things created is not as clear as trinitarians pretend...there are other instances in the bible where all is used and does not mean all in the all inclusive sense...and even some where it was felt necessary to clarify that point.

col 1:15 says Jesus is the firstborn or protokos of creation...and the first born of the dead in parallel.... it seems clear to me that first born of the dead means just that, first of all who ever lived to be re-born as an immortal after having physically died. there are others who died and were raised prior but he was the first who according to the bible never died again.... and if that sense is carried back to first born of creation it seems equally as plain that he was the very first being that came into existance as a distinct and apparently seperate entity from God...the very first being made in the IMAGE of GOD which is what it says just before this....which should tell trinitarians right away they are mistaken as it does not proclaim Jesus as God, but his IMAGE, the very same term used when Adam or mankind was made.
